FERMENTATION TECHNOLOGY UNIT (FTU)
The facility is well-equipped with bioreactors and downstream processingequipment for scaling up the production of industrially important microorganisms, chemicals and enzymes. The stirred tank bioreactors available are at various scales including 2L, 5L, 10L, 50L, 100L and 200L. The bioreactors are equipped with precise control system for pH, temperature, dissolve oxygen, agitation speed, air flow rate, foaming and culture level. The downstream processing equipment available here includes pilot scale semi continuous centrifuge, high pressure homogenizer, pilot scale tangential flow filtration system, disk stack centrifuge, pilot scale freeze dryer and pilot scale rotary evaporator. In addition, up to date computer programs for simulation, modelling, simulation and optimization of bioprocess are also available in this unit.This facility is available for research, training, process development and also contract production.
GOOD MANUFACTURING PRACTICE (GMP) FACILITY FORÂ VACCINEÂ PRODUCTION
This GMP facility is accommodated with complete equipment, laboratories and utilities for commercial production of bacterial vaccines for veterinary uses. The bioprocesses in this facility are operated to conform to the requirement of GMP in accordance to the ASEAN Standards for GMP of Animal Vaccines production. This 3,200 square feet manufacturing facility offers complete services from upstream to downstream operations as well as filling and bottling. The production is based on 500 L stirred tank bioreactor. Cell harvesting is performed using tangential flow membrane filtration system. The finish products in liquid form are filled in various sizes of capped bottles (50-250 mL). Quality Control (QC) laboratory and Microbial Laboratory are also available to support the stringent quality control and rigorous environmental monitoring programme involve in GMP manufacturing areas.


BIOMANUFACTURING FACILITY FOR FOOD AND FOOD INGREDIENTS PRODUCTION
The facility is well-equipped with various food grade manufacturing equipment and machine for upstream processing, downstream processing, filling and bottling required for food and food ingredients research and development activities. These include 100L stirred tank bioreactor, spray dryer, tangential flow filtration system, semi automated filling and capping machine, semi automated labelling machine and horizontal ‘sachet’ packaging machine. In parallel towards HACCP certification, this facility applies systematic preventive approach to food safety in term of biological, chemical and physical hazards during production processes and design measurement to reduce the hazardous risk to a safe level. This facility will be used for research, process development and contract production.
ANALYTICAL LABORATORY
The laboratory provides broad analytical support for fermentation and bioprocess technology and is operated according to Quality Management System. Thislaboratory is well-equipped with laboratory scale equipment such as centrifuge, tangential flow filtration system, incubator shaker, laminar air flow cabinet, fluorescence microscope, ultrasonic cleaner, High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detector and refractive index detector, Gas Chromatography (GC), glucose analyzer, rheometer, freezers, cold room and general laboratory apparatus and consumables.
